Neighbors for many years

Our neighbor for years, Kathy and Bob were the kind of people that one could only wish everyone could have move in next to them. We lived next door to each other from 1979 to a couple of years ago when they abandoned us for Virginia. Bob was a staple in community affairs, the mayor of our town, little league coach and the guy everyone turned to to speak up for them in the Township. He was conciliatory and as needed combative, but most of all he was caring for his neighbors and his community. It is a sad day. That being said, until two years ago, I had the welcome opportunity to let him know that Harvard was never again going to lose to Yale (unfortunately we have lost two in a row), but fortunately he was living next to us when they were losing and had moved to Virginia when they started winning again. We were a couple of years apart in age and while we were competitors, learned that we had a lot of similar interests, not the least of which was the Red Sox Nation. Each year was how are we going to do? Each year was are we going to have a June Swoon (only die hard sox fans recognize that expression and three times in the last two decades we rejoiced together about their ultimate success. Bob was every persons best friend even if they did not know him. He showed that on the golf course as he always let me win notwithstanding his quest for a lower score. Sally and I will miss Bob tremendously and hope that this note suggests to any reader what we have tried to express is that he made all of us better people - except for golf LOL
